Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy in New Jersey

Bladder leakage, pelvic pain and changes after pregnancy are common, but they aren’t something you have to live with. Pelvic floor physical therapy treats the muscles that support your bladder, bowel and pelvic organs, helping you regain control, reduce pain and feel like yourself again. Our therapists provide private, respectful care for women and men at our Plainfield, Union and Bernardsville clinics in New Jersey.

What Is Pelvic Floor Therapy?

Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles at the base of your pelvis. When these muscles are too weak, too tight or not working together well, they can cause leakage, pain or pressure. Pelvic floor therapy is a specialized type of physical therapy that assesses these muscles and uses targeted exercises and hands-on techniques to restore strength, flexibility and coordination.

What to Expect

1. A private conversation. Your first visit starts with a one-on-one discussion of your symptoms, history and goals, in a private room at your own pace.

2. A thorough assessment. Your therapist evaluates your posture, breathing, core and hip strength, and how your pelvic floor muscles are working. Any part of the exam is explained first and done only with your consent.

3. A personalized plan. We design a treatment plan around your symptoms and goals, and explain how each part of it helps.

4. Treatment and home program. Sessions may include pelvic floor exercises, relaxation and coordination training, core strengthening and hands-on techniques, plus simple exercises to practice at home.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Care

Pregnancy and childbirth put real demands on the pelvic floor and core. During pregnancy, therapy can ease pelvic and back pain and help prepare your body for delivery. After birth, once your healthcare provider clears you, pelvic floor therapy can help with leakage, pain, abdominal separation and a safe return to exercise.
